The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Chrysler has initiated a recall for certain model year 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8s and Chrysler 300 SRT8s for “failing to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard[s]” that address the vehicles’ Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The tire safety system on these vehicles does not warn drivers when a tire has dropped 25 percent below its recommended pressure, posing a serious crash risk.

Chrysler Group notified owners that on certain utility vehicles, the software programmed into the ABS electronic control module could allow a momentary delay in braking when coasting up a hill during certain conditions. This could cause a crash without warning. More than 196,000 vehicles were involved in this recall.

Chrysler announced the recall of 62,400 units of its 2007 model year vehicles due to faulty Electronic Control System Unit affecting the vehicles’ braking system. The affected models included the Chrysler Sebring, Chrysler 300, Jeep Commander, Jeep Compass, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Liberty, Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Nitro, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger and Dodge Caliber.

Due to various complaints from drivers of the 2007 to 2008 Sebring and Dodge Avenger models, there was a major recall involving these cars in April 2008. The models that were produced in mid-April of that year were recalled due to electrical problems that had been causing a number of different conditions. The vehicles involved in the recall all had standard tire-pressure monitoring systems.

Chrysler has announced that it will be performing a voluntary recall on over 35,000 Dodge and Jeep vehicles across several countries for potentially sticky pedals in response to the recent Toyota recall, as their pedals are supplied by the same company. The recall focuses on those vehicles with manufacture dates ranging between March 7 and May 19, 2006. Chrysler reports that these vehicles are equipped with brake-override software, and that they do not consider the possible defect to be a safety issue; however, the manufacturer opted to perform the recall voluntarily.
