Hydroxycut products were marketed as diet supplements to help you lose weight, lose water-weight, and burn fat, as well as enhance your energy. Unfortunately, these seemingly magic weight-loss products can be extremely dangerous. The Adverse Effects of Hydroxycut

Hydroxycut supplements can seriously injure the liver and even cause liver failure. The products have also been linked to seizures, heart problems, and rhabdomyolysis—a form of muscle damage that can cause kidney failure and other problems.

By May 2009, twenty-three cases of liver problems due to taking Hydroxycut had been reported to the FDA. These cases ranged from indications of liver damage (jaundice and elevated liver enzymes) to liver damage so severe that the patient needed a liver transplant in order to survive. The FDA has also received a report of a death due to liver failure because of Hydroxycut.

Cases of liver damage were reported even though the patients were not exceeding the doses recommended on Hydroxycut packaging. Hydroxycut products are made with herbs and a variety of other ingredients; it has not been determined which ingredients may be triggering the health problems.
