The 2003 – 2006 year model Cadillac CTS and STS are being investigated by NHTSA following complaints that the rear differential fails prematurely. NHTSA has received 20 reports of differential failure, a majority of which stated that the rear wheels locked up as a result of the failure. Some of the reports state that the problem began occurring with as little as 3,400 miles on the vehicle. The preliminary evaluation has been opened to asses the scope and potential safety related consequences of the alleged defect.
