Freightliner LLC. is recalling 18,000 trucks and chassis due to defects in the steering systems. The fasteners that attach the steering arm or tie rod arm to the spindle may have been over or under tightened at the factory. This could cause the parts to fatigue and potentially break which could cause a crash. The following vehicles are included in the recall and were all manufactured from January 5 to May 17, 2007. The FCCC B2, the Freightliner Business Class M2, Century ST, Classic, Classic XL, Columbia, Coronado, FLD120SD, the Sterling A-line, Acterra, L-Line, the Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2, HDX and the Western Star 4900. Freightliner will notify owners and repair the defect free of charge.
