Subaru of America, Inc., is recalling over 7,000 cars due to a defect in the wiring harness that controls the front air bags. The recall affects the 2006 model year Forester and the 2006 model year Impreza. The wiring harness for the front passenger air bag occupant detection system may have been pinched between the floor crossmember and the seat mounting bracket. This could cause a short in the wiring that would prevent the air bags from firing in the event of an accident and may also cause a fire. Dealers will inspect the wiring harness for proper routing and repair any damaged wiring.
