Engine Fires Reported with Certain GM Vehicles
NHTSA has expanded its investigation into the non-crash related engine fires reported on certain General Motors vehicles. The investigation now includes the 1999 to 2002 model year Buick Park Avenue Ultra and Regal, the 1999 Buick Rivera and Oldsmobile LSS and the 1999 – 2002 model year Pontiac Bonneville and Grand Prix. These vehicles are equipped with the “L67” engine, which is a supercharged version of the 3800 Series II V6. Reports state that the fires started while driving and while the vehicle is parked with the ignition off. NHTSA has opened this investigation to determine the scope of the issues and the frequency with which they occur.
