Foreign Tire Sales, Inc. is recalling 450,000 tires due to manufacturing defects. The tires were manufactured without a gum strip or with an insufficient gum strip between the belts. The lack of gum strips on these tires could allow the tread to separate from the tire at highway speeds potentially causing an accident resulting in the serious injury or death of the vehicle occupants. This manufacturing defect is also a violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 119, “New Pneumatic Tires”. The manufacturer has yet to provide NHTSA with a solution or notification schedule.
