General Motors announced that they will be recalling 181,516 vehicles of the model year 2006-08 Chevrolet HHR wagons. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that these vehicles are not equipped with optional roof rail airbags and this could increase the risk of a head injury in the event of a side-impact collision. Test results indicate that they failed to meet the federal motor vehicle safety standards. The recall is likely to begin in March 2008. General Motors will notify the owners of affected vehicles and dealers will install an energy-absorbent piece to the headliner trim.
