NHTSA has received multiple complaints regarding Jeep Liberties powered by the 2.8 Liter 4 – Cylinder Turbo Diesel engine. The complaints state that the electric fuel pre-heater, which is part of the fuel filter / water separator assembly, may actually leak fuel. Several of the reports state that the assembly was burned or discolored. Some users state that the part was smoking or even boiling the fuel. This investigation is for the 2005 and 2006 year model Jeep Liberty and the 2006 year model Jeep Liberty 4x4.
