Tire Recall

With millions of tires manufactured each year, a certain percentage of these have some form of either a manufacturing or design defect. Depending on the tire manufacturer’s corporate policy and the severity of the defect, sometimes recalls are issued.

Below is a list of some previous tire recalls:

Cooper Tire Recall: In October 2006, Cooper Tire recalled nearly 80,000 tires. The tires have a non-conforming belt wire stock that may allow moisture to corrode the steel belts inside the tire’s tread. This condition could result in the tread separating from the tire and potentially causing a vehicle crash.

Goodyear Tire Recall: Goodyear issued a recall in 2001, recalling 200,000 Load Range E and Wrangler LT model tires. The tires in question could suffer a tread separation potentially resulting in a rollover.

Bridgestone / Firestone Tire Recall: Following numerous deaths resulting from tread separation, Bridgestone / Firestone issued a recall for 6.5 million tires on August 9, 2000.

BF Goodrich Tire Recall: On September 27, 2004, BF Goodrich recalled 46,000 tires that contained manufacturing defects, making the tires susceptible to tread separation.
