Bridgestone recalls tires for fear of tread separation, auto accidents

Bridgestone America and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced a voluntary safety recall of more than 127,000 Firestone tires because they were produced with insufficient tread base gauge, according to a release by the NHTSA. The model tire affected by the recall is Firestone FR380, size P235/75R15, and they were manufactured between September 9, 2007, and August 2, 2008.

The lack of tread base gauge could lead to vibrations and groove cracking, as well as tread distortion. Any of these damages could lead to loss of vehicle control and serious automobile accidents. Bridgestone representatives urge any consumers using these specific tires to stop immediately, as continued use can lead to serious damage.

Bridgestone will replace the affected tires at no cost to the owner, and the company will also mount and balance the replacement tires. Consumers can contact Bridgestone for replacement details at (800) 465-1904 or visit the Web site at www.firestone.com.
