Sebrings, Avengers Recalled For Electrical Hazards

Due to various complaints from drivers of the 2007 to 2008 Sebring and Dodge Avenger models, there was a major recall involving these cars in April 2008. The models that were produced in mid-April of that year were recalled due to electrical problems that had been causing a number of different conditions. The vehicles involved in the recall all had standard tire-pressure monitoring systems.

Some of the complaints that were connected to these vehicles include: engines that do not start, dead batteries, an inoperative cruise control or remote start system, and/or engine stalling. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), electrical connecters used for the tire-pressure monitoring system that go unused can become eroded which can cause a short circuit. The NHTSA warned that, in the worst case scenario, a short circuit could cause the vehicle to abruptly stall without any warning. This could, in turn, cause a serious car accident.

Owners of these vehicles have been asked to go to their local Chrysler and Dodge dealers and have the wires for the tire-pressure monitoring system sealed. The service for the recall was free of charge. Customers with further questions were asked to contact Chrysler’s customer service line at (800) 853-1403.
