Sherwin-Williams Company Recalls 17,850 Tree House Studio Canisters

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that the Sherwin-Williams Company of Cleveland, Ohio voluntarily recalled 17,850 of its Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating aerosol products. The August 28, 2012 announcement comes as a response to recent discovery of fire hazards associated with a defective Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating aerosol canister. The clear acrylic matte coating was manufactured in the United States and sold exclusively in Hobby Lobby stores nationwide between July 2011 and June 2012 for approximately $7.00 each.

The safety risk is due to a defect that may cause the aerosol canisters to leak. If the Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating canister is stored near a source of ignition, this poses a fire hazard to consumers. There are currently no incidents or reports of consumer injury as a result of the affected acrylic matte coating canisters.

The Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating was sold in white aerosol canisters. The Tree House Studio logo and the name “Clear Acrylic Matte Coating” are located on the front of the product. The batch date HL2081LT and UPC code 724504103004 are printed on the bottom of the affected 11-ounce aerosol canisters.

Consumers should immediately discontinue use of their Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating products. Additionally, consumers should contact Sherwin-Williams Company toll-free at 888-304-3769 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website at Sherwin-Williams.com for a refund. Consumers may also visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission website for more information.
