Enduro Off-Road Motorcycles Recalled For Fuel Leak, Fire Hazard

Another day, another recall for recreational vehicles, as this time a popular off-road motorcycle is under scrutiny because of more dangerous consumer reports. This time the recall being reported involves the Enduro motorcycle, which is manufactured by Austria’s KTM-Sportmotorcycle and imported by KTM North America, as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is reporting that approximately 1,300 of the Enduro motorcycles are being recalled because of a manufacturing defect that is responsible for potentially dangerous fire hazards.

The defect in question involves the pre-formed fuel hose, as it has been discovered that small holes or cracks can develop in the line, allowing fuel to leak while the motorcycle is being operated. Obviously, such a defect could lead to fires and crashes, which would subsequently lead to injuries or worse. As of this announcement, both the CSPC and KTM are aware of at least 13 reports of fuel leak; however, there have fortunately been no accidents or injuries reported.

Involved in the recall are seven models of the 2013 Enduro motorcycle (250 XC-F, 250 XCF-W, 350 XC-F, 350 XCF-W, 450 XC-F, 450 XC-W, and 500 XC-W) and one model of the 2012 edition (MY 2012 KTM 350 XCF-W). The motorcycles were sold nationwide by KTM retailers between October 2011 and September of last year, and the suggested retail price ranged from $8,500 to $9,600. Owners of these affected models should contact KTM immediately to schedule a free repair, as the company asserts on its website that the issue will be handled immediately.

Owners can contact KTM North America at (888) 985-6090 for additional information.
