Over 18,000 Honda and Acura Vehicles Recalled Due To Brake Booster Problem

In late April, Honda issued a recall for over 200,000 vehicles to fix a gear-shift mechanism that could possibly shift the vehicles transmission out of the park position without pressing the brake pedal. The recall affected popular models, such as the 2013 Acura RDX sedans, and Honda CR-Vs and Odyssey minivans from the 2012 and 2013 model years. The gear-shift problem could result in the vehicle being shifted into drive by accident. This recall was issued just one week after Honda recalled approximately 561,000 vehicles due to defective airbags that were linked back to the Japan-based Takata Corporation.

Now Honda is facing another problem with its automobiles. Last week, Honda announced the recall of over 18,000 vehicles due to a problem with the brake booster. The company is recalling 5,239 Honda S2000 vehicles from the 2006 and 2007 model years, in addition to 13,113 Acura RSX vehicles from the 2006 model year. Almost 1,000 vehicles in Canada are also affected by this recall. Honda issued the recall after the problem was discovered through warranty claim analysis.

According to a Honda press release, “[a] production error may have allowed brake booster components to be produced outside of the original specifications, potentially causing decreased brake assistance over time, which could increase the risk of a crash.”

Owners should take their vehicles to the dealership for inspection upon mail notification from Honda, which is expected to begin around July 15.   At that time, Honda owners will also be able to check to see if their vehicles will require repair by visiting www.recall.honda.com or www.recall.acura.com, or calling Honda at (800) 999-1009 or Acura at (800) 382-2238 and selecting option four.
