Genlyte Recalls Track Lighting Due to Injury Hazard

In recent years, many products have been recalled due to potential impact injury hazards. This week, Kichler Lighting recalled more than 20,000 chandeliers due to the risk that the mounting loop that holds the chandelier may break. Another lighting product has been recalled for similar reasons this week, the CPSC reports. Genlyte, which is part of the Philips Consumer Luminaires Corporation, recalled approximately 80,300 track lighting units that are under its Capri brand.

According to the Philips recall report, the adapter assembly that connects the lighting fixture to the track rail contains a defect which can cause the adapter assembly to develop stress fractures. This can lead to the lighting fixtures falling out of the track rail, posing an impact injury hazard. Genlyte has received 12 reports of the light fixtures cracking, including three reports of light fixtures falling off their track rails. No injuries have been reported.

The units, which were manufactured in Hong Kong, were sold at electrical wholesale supply distributors from August 2010 through January 2013 for between $50 and $150. The track lighting is used in commercial buildings and includes 15 types of metal or polycarbonate light fixtures, accessories and adapters that come in white, black or silver colors. The catalog number and date code are printed inside the lighting fixture. The words “Capri Lighting” are printed on a white label inside the track rail.

The Philips website features a guide and list of affected catalog numbers for consumers to determine whether or not their product is a part of this recall. Consumers are urged to “immediately stop using the recalled track lights, remove them from the track rail and contact Genlyte for free replacement track lights.”

Genlyte can be contacted by phone at (800) 375-6007 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, or by email at capritrack@philips.com.
