Swan Creek Candles Recalls Candles Due to Fire Hazard

In May, the popular cosmetics company Avon, in conjunction with the CPSC, announced a recall of approximately 55,000 popcorn makers due to burn and fire hazards. If the popcorn is cooked too long in the popcorn maker, it may overheat and the product may ignite, potentially increasing the risk of a fire or burn hazard to consumers. This week, another household product is being recalled due to a fire hazard.

Swan Creek Candle Co. recently recalled approximately 715,000 loose votive candles because the units can burn with a high flame, posing a fire and burn hazard for consumers. According to the CPSC, Swan Creek Candle Co. has received about 89 reports of the candles producing high or erratic flames and four reports of minor burns. There have been no reports of fire or property damage.

The recalled candles were sold loose and not in any container, and were displayed in open trays or bins. The candles are two inches tall and were sold in many fragrance varieties and colors from January 2012 through November 2012 for about $2 a piece. Manufactured in the United States, the candles were sold at Swan Creek Candle Co. stores in Florida, Michigan and Ohio, as well as in other small candle shops nationwide and online at www.swancreekcandle.com. The candles do not have any labels containing price information, model numbers, names, date codes or fragrance descriptions, Consumer Affairs reports in an article.

The CPSC recommends that consumers stop using the recalled votive candles immediately and return them to any Swan Creek Candle Co. stores for a full refund or a replacement poured votive candle in a votive glass. Candles purchased online can be refunded through Swan Creek Candle Co., and candles that were purchased at other candle shops can be returned to the store where purchased for a full refund.

Swan Creek Candle Co. can be contacted at 888-804-8492 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at scc.votiveissue@gmail.com.
