HALO Innovations Recalls About 27,000 Wearable Blankets Due to Choking Hazard

Babies and toddlers are some of the most vulnerable members of our community, and as such, baby and toddler products should be designed and manufactured in a safe manner. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. For instance, in January, some of Bugaboo International’s high end baby strollers were found to pose both fall and choking hazards due to the seat handles potentially detaching. The company subsequently recalled approximately 46,300 strollers that were sold by retailers nationwide, including Babies “R” Us. Now, another company that has products at Babies “R” Us, HALO Innovations, is recalling approximately 27,000 SleepSack wearable blankets due to an adornment that can detach, posing a choking hazard.

The CPSC reports that the floral embellishment has petals that can detach and be hazardous for infants. According to HALO Innovations, there have been six incidents in which petals have fallen off of the sleepsacks. In one report, an infant gagged on a loose petal.

The recalled sleepsacks are white with pink accents on their ruffles. A pink flower is attached on the front. There are cut-outs for the arms and a zipper down the middle. The sleepsacks were sold in small and medium sizes, and have the following GPU numbers printed on a neck label which is located underneath the primary neck label: 2701, 2781, 2886, 2887, 3007, 3035 and 3142. The sleepsacks were manufactured in China.

The products were sold exclusively at Babies “R” Us and online at www.babiesrus.com. Available in stores from December 2011 through July 2013, the recalled sleepsacks were priced at approximately $25. Owners of the recalled products should contact HALO Innovations for a pre-paid envelope with instructions on how to detach and return the floral embellishment. The company will allow consumers to order a free replacement product. Until then, it is suggested that consumers stop using the wearable blankets.

Consumers can contact HALO Innovations at 866-819-8118 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays or by email at halorecall@nrmsinc.com.
