Vitamix Recalls About 165,000 Containers Due to Laceration Hazard

Laceration hazards can pose serious risks to the consumer. For instance, a product could be manufactured in a way that causes it to break easily, leaving sharp parts exposed. In July, Renaissance Imports recalled about 5,000 pairs of boots after it discovered a staple that could become exposed and potentially puncture the boot wearer. Now, Vitamix is recalling approximately 165,000 64-ounce Low-Profile Containers due to the risk of laceration.

The CPSC reports that the containers have a blade that can break, and possibly injure consumers. The company has received about 18 reports of the blades breaking, but no injuries have been reported.

The recalled containers have the blade part number 103208 A and blade date codes 03-12 (March 2012) through 07-13 (July 2013) laser etched on the blade. The containers are clear and plastic with a black handle and lid. They were sold with Vitamix blender models 7500, Professional Series 300 and Professional Series 750. The containers were also sold individually.

In stores from April 2012 to August 2013, the recalled Vitamix containers were sold at major retailers and online at The blender models were priced between $529 and $749 and the container was priced individually at $149. In addition to being sold at retailers and online, the containers were also sold through show demonstrators. According to the CPSC, consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Vitamix for a free repair. Consumers can contact Vitamix at 888-350-4386 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Saturdays. Also, consumers can go to for more information.
