Defective Seatbelts; Hyundai Recalls 978,000 Sonatas

            Seatbelts found in nearly one-million Hyundai vehicles can allegedly unfasten in a crash leading to a massive recall. The announcement affects the Hyundai Sonata sold under model years 2011 to 2014 and the Sonata hybrid from model years 2011 to 2015. Hyundai told authorities that during assembly the seatbelt anchor was not properly fastened and could detach in an accident. Only one injury has been reported at the time of the recall. Hyundai said that they will begin reaching out to affected owners in early April. (more…)

RECENTLY ANNOUNCED NHTSA RECALLS

Chevrolet Sonic: On December 22, 2011 General Motors announced that it will begin a recall of 4,296 Model Year 2012 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles to check for a missing brake pad. The particular models affected by the recall are 2012 Sonics manufactured between June 2 and November 21, 2011. General Motors reported that a front inner or outer brake pad may be missing from these vehicles, which could result in reduced brake system performance, increasing the risk of a crash.

Newsome Law Firm Wins $13.6 Mil. Verdict in Tread Separation Case

On October 13, 2011, the Newsome Law Firm won a $13.6 million verdict for a client in a tire tread separation lawsuit.  The lawsuit followed a tragic accident in which a 45 year old woman was severely injured when her rear right tire suffered a tread separation on Interstate 75 in Florida, causing her vehicle to slide into the median where it rolled five times.  Despite wearing her seatbelt, the driver was rendered a quadriplegic.
