Build-A-Bear Recalls Approximately 25,000 Stuffed Toys Due to Choking Hazard

It is important for parents of young children to examine and assess all toys given to their young ones. Often, certain toys can pose a choking hazard. Last month, Holgate Toys had to issue a recall for 5,000 playmat sets due to small pieces that children could potentially choke on. Another popular toy is now being recalled. The well-known “build your own” stuffed animal retailer Build-A-Bear is recalling about 25,000 stuffed animals with eyes that can pose a choking hazard to children.

According to the CPSC, the stuffed animals are replicas of the beloved character Sulley from Disney’s Monsters movies. The eyes on the stuffed animals can detach and be dangerous for young children. Build-A-Bear has not received any reports of the eyes detaching and injuring consumers.

The recalled stuffed animals are blue with purple spots. They also have purple horns and red claws. In total, each stuffed animal is about 17 inches tall and 10.5 inches wide. On the legs of the recalled stuffed animals are tracking labels with numbers that end in 4384 or 4385 (in the U.S.) and in 4378 (in Canada), according to Consumerist. The products were sold at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and online at in June of this year for approximately $23.

Consumers are instructed to take the recalled stuffed animals away from young children and return them to Build-A-Bear Workshop retailers. There, the consumer will be provided a coupon for any stuffed animal at Build-A-Bear Workshop. Consumers can contact Build-A-Bear at 866-236-5683 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT, and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT.
