Chrysler Group LLC has announced a safety recall of more than 24,000 vehicles after the company decided that defect was present in some 2009 and 2010 model vehicles. A brake pedal linkage clip was potentially manufactured incorrectly in 2010 models of the Chrysler Sebring, Jeep Commander, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Liberty, Dodge Avenger, and Dodge Nitro. Both 2009 and 2010 models of the Dodge Ram are also possibly affected by this manufacturing defect, and the Ram may not have the clip installed at all.

The lack of the brake pedal linkage clip creates the possibility for the vehicles to experience a detachment between the brake booster input rod and the brake pedal. The result would be a loss of the vehicle’s service brake power, which would lead to an unexpected automobile accident. It has yet to be released or determined how many complaints, if any, have been filed against Chrysler, or if this defect has caused any known accidents and/or injuries at this point.

Chrysler and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are urging consumers driving the aforementioned vehicles to visit their local dealership immediately to have their automobiles examined and repaired, if necessary. Chrysler will repair affected vehicles at no cost to the consumer, including parts and labor. The manufacturer anticipates that the repair should take no longer than a half hour. Consumers who have already had the repair made and have paid out of pocket can send their proof of payment to Chrysler for full reimbursement.
