American Honda Motor Co. issued a recall in July 2008 involving the TRX 420 Rancher All-Terrain Vehicles that were produced from 2007 to 2008. This recall, said to affect around 42,000 ATVs, was in cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recalled ATVs are also known as the Honda FourTrax Rancher 4X4 and were available in red, black, olive, and camouflage. These units have the Honda name and wing logo printed on the fuel tank. They were manufactured for riders that are 16 years of age and older.

These ATVs have been said to contain defective rubber CV (constant velocity) boots. If these boots were punctured or torn, it could have caused the joint to become contaminated and severe binding of the CV joints can occur. If that happened, it could have caused the driver to suddenly lose control of their steering, which could lead to serious injury and potential death.

American Honda Motor Co. advised that usage of these ATVs should stop immediately. Registered owners of these ATVs received direct notice in the mail that instructed them on how to have their ATVs repaired.
