Nissan’s latest Pathfinder model and Infiniti JX model have been riddled with many problems. In September, the Los Angeles Times reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating potential transmission failure after receiving reports about both models. The investigation follows two previous recalls that took place earlier in 2013. One of these recalls involved issues with the front brake torque members that could lead to reduced braking and an increased likelihood of a crash. Now, Nissan is recalling approximately 151,695 vehicles due to potential issues with software that controls the anti-lock braking system.

USA Today reports that the issue affects Nissan Pathfinder crossover sport utility vehicles as well as Infiniti JX35 and QX60 models from the 2013 and 2014 model years. The Pathfinders were manufactured between April 18, 2012 and September 20, 2013, and the JX35s were manufactured from September 15, 2011 to January 16, 2013. Finally, the QX60s were built from January 17, 2013 to September 20, 2013.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “the vehicles’ anti-lock braking system software system has a glitch that could cause ‘increased stopping distances’ during light braking on rough or uneven roads.” This issue could increase the risk of a crash. A Nissan spokesperson stated that the manufacturer has not received any reports of accidents or injuries associated with this issue.

As part of the recall, the software that controls the anti-lock braking system will need to be reprogrammed at Nissan dealers. The fix will be provided for free. Nissan will notify owners of the vehicles about the recall, but has not yet provided a date when this notification will occur.
