Based in Ohio, Big Lots currently boasts more than 1,400 retail stores across the country, with a reputation for providing a wide variety of items, from food and grocery items to household appliances and electronics, at an affordable price with a limited availability. Basically, it’s first come first serve on any given day, because no item is ever guaranteed to be in stock. And one item that certainly won’t be in stock anytime soon is the Wilson & Fisher Garden Swing.

Big Lots and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced today that the discount retailer is recalling approximately 6,900 of the garden swings due to a manufacturing defect that can cause the swing’s seat to break during use. So far there have been 14 reports of such incidents, with several of the consumers reporting that the broken seats led to falls that have left them with back pain. The large swings, manufactured in China, have a natural wood finish and support the weight of two people; however, it’s a lack of support that has caused Big Lots to initiate this recall process.

Sold between March and June of this year for $130, the swings’ bench seats will be accepted at Big Lots stores for a full refund, while Big Lots representatives have stated that the consumer should destroy and dispose of the other parts. For additional information, consumers can contact the company at (866) 244-5687 or refer to the Big Lots website.

This is the second recall in as many months involving Big Lots and Wilson & Fisher merchandise. Last month, the CPSC announced that Big Lots had recalled 22,500 Wilson & Fisher Bistro Sets due to reports that the chairs were breaking and also causing people to fall. There were at least three injuries associated with that recall.

Additionally, in June, Big Lots recalled more than 70,000 ceramic heaters due to the potential for fires and shock hazards, and in January, more than 43,000 floor lamps were also recalled by the Fortune 500 company due to shock hazards.
