Arctic Cat Inc., the manufacturer of the Arctic Cat All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) issued a recall for its 2007 Arctic Cat 90cc DVX and Utility Model ATVs due to loosened steering components that could have caused serious injury or death.

The recall affected 1,500 units of Arctic ATVs and owners were notified to stop driving their vehicles with immediate effect. The defect was caused during the production process when the handlebar base mounting bolts, tie-rod ends and tie-rod adjustment locking nuts were not tightened to the proper torque. The loosened components could have resulted in loss of vehicle control when in motion, potentially causing serious injury or death.

The recall exercise covered vehicle models manufactured in Taiwan, which are the 2007 model 90cc DVX youth model ATVs within the VIN range of RFB07ATV07K6F0243 through RFB07ATVX7K6F0752, and 90cc Utility youth model ATVs within the VIN range of RFB07ATV07K6D1367 through RFB07ATVX7K6D2400. These models are manufactured for users who are 12 years old and older.

These models were sold in the United States from August 2006 to January 2007, at a cost of about $2,200 per unit. The 90cc DVX model, available in Lime Green or Red had the words ‘DVX 90’ and ‘Arctic Cat’ printed on its fuel tank and seats respectively, whilst the 90cc Utility model, available in Marsh Green or Red had the words ‘Arctic Cat’ and ‘90’ printed on its fuel tank and side panels respectively.

To date, no complaints or injury reports have been filed with Arctic Car Inc. pertaining to loosen steering components.
