Chrysler Group LLC and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced the voluntary recall of approximately 1,449 Dodge Durango vehicles in the United States (as well as an additional 260 in Canada) because of a manufacturing defect in the airbags. The vehicles in question are 2013 Durangos that were manufactured between April 11, 2012 and July 20, 2012, and the recall is expected to begin in September.

The affected vehicles may have been built with the wrong airbag occupant restraint control, according to Chrysler.  According to the NHTSA recall campaign notice, if one of the recalled Durangos is broad-sided during a crash, the supplemental side air bag inflatable curtain may not deploy, leading to potential injuries for backseat passengers.

Chrysler will soon notify owners that may be affected by this recall, and the automobile manufacturer will replace the ORC modules at no cost to the consumer. For additional information, vehicle owners may contact Chrysler at (800) 853-1403 or the NHTSA at (888) 327-4236.
