Last week, Teavana issued a recall for nearly 470,000 Glass Tea Tumblers due to the possibility of laceration and burn hazards. A variety of tumblers were affected, including products that were sold as part of tea sets, because the tumblers may break or shatter unexpectedly, posing laceration and burn hazards. Teavana issued the recall after receiving over 300 reports of glass breaking or shattering during use, including six incidents that resulted in lacerations and burns.
Now another tea and coffee cup is being recalled for burn hazards. The popular Swedish furniture company, IKEA, announced a recall of approximately 220,000 LYDA jumbo cups worldwide, including 11,000 affected products in the United States. The cups, which were manufactured in Thailand and cost about $5, were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and on www.ikea-usa.com between August 2012 and April 2013.
According to the CPSC, “[t]he cups can break when hot liquid is poured into them, posing a burn hazard.” Consumers should immediately identify whether or not the recall affects their product, as IKEA has already received 20 reports worldwide of incidents associated with the LYDA jumbo cup, including 10 scalding injuries.
The recalled tea/coffee cups, which are four inches tall and hold 20-ounces of liquid, are white with a pink rose and green leaf decoration. Consumers can check information on the bottom of the cup to see if the recall affects their product. Recalled cups have model number 302.033.7 and supplier number 10866, along with the IKEA logo and “IKEA of Sweden Design and Quality” text.
Consumers should immediately stop use of the cups to avoid the possibility of a burn injury, and they can return the product to any IKEA store for a full refund.
