Over the past two weeks the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada have announced voluntary recalls by the popular home store Pier 1 Imports from issues dealing with two types of tea light candles and one particular tea light holder. More than 37,000 Silver and Gold Glitter Tea Lights have been recalled in the U.S. and another 3,000 have been pulled from stores in Canada as well.
Pier 1 has received three reports that the small teal light candles have presented the possibility of serious fire hazards, as the flames on the candles could possibly ignite the decorative glitter. While no injuries have been reported, Pier 1 and the CSPC strongly urge any consumers who have purchased these specific tea light candles between September and December 2009 to return them to their nearest store for a refund or store credit.
The tea light candles come in clear plastic boxes in a 24 count, and have the SKU number 2410322. The SKU is located on the bottom of the package. The teal light candles retail for about $10.
Pier 1 also voluntarily recalled more than 61,000 Ceramic Santa Tea Light Holders in the U.S. and another 5,500 in Canada, because the flames from the tea light candles could possibly ignite the ceramic candle holders. Pier 1 received three reports of the candle holders catching on fire, however no reports of injury. The candle holders are red and white and look like Santa Claus. They carry the SKU number 2417274.
