Subaru announces recall on 2002-2004 Impreza models

Subaru of America, Inc. is recalling nearly 6,000 models of the company’s 2002 through 2004 Impreza WRX vehicle due to problems with the fuel system and other various potentially defective parts. There have been reported of leaking fuel lines during cold starts of the vehicles, which can lead to fire if the car and leak are exposed to any incendiary devices.

The recall is not currently nationwide, but it does affect the following states: South Dakota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Minnesota, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Colorado, Wisconsin, New York, Wyoming, Michigan, Arkansas, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Consumers who have purchased an Impreza WRX with a model year between 2002 and 2004 are urged to immediately stop driving their vehicles and to contact either the original Subaru dealership of purchase or their nearest Subaru dealership to have the defective fuel line or other faulty parts (hoses, lines, fittings, connections, etc.) replaced free of charge.

The recall will begin in January 2010 and consumers can contact Subaru at (800) 782-2783 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236 for additional instructions and information.
