On September 13, 2012, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that True Innovations is voluntarily recalling 8,400 Realspace Soho Prestigio High-Back Leather Chairs. The office chairs, manufactured in China, were imported by Office Depot of Boca Raton, Florida. Reports indicate that defective Prestigio High-Back Leather Chairs may present a fall or injury hazard to consumers. The affected chairs were sold from October 2008 to February 2011 in Office Depot locations across the United States and online. A total of 78 incidents have been reported involving broken seat plates, including one reported fall injury. True Innovations is asking consumers to discontinue use of the office chairs until they obtain a free repair kit.
The Realspace Soho Prestigio High-Back Leather Chairs come with cushioned arm rests, a seat adjustment bar, a five-leg silver base, and black wheels. The affected chairs cost approximately $250 each and were only offered in black leather. Consumers typically assemble the chairs at home, with basic tools that can be found within the box after purchase.
To determine whether a chair is included in the recall, the user should check under the seat. On affected chairs, there will be a label with the words “Realspace Soho” and “Prestigio High-Back Chair Black Leather.” The SKU number 181-265 will also be found on the label.
Consumers and offices using the recalled Realspace Soho Prestigio High-Back Leather Chairs should contact True Innovations, LLC for a free repair kit. The kit will include a replacement seat plate and the necessary installation tools. Consumers may call True Innovations toll-free at (800) 379-9773 between 9am and 8pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, or visit the manufacturer’s website for more information.
