Toys R Us Issues Recall for Toy Helicopters Due to Fire and Burn Hazard

Defective products that carry a fire hazard are dangerous for both the home and the consumer. This month, a few recalls have been issued for these types of products. Swan Creek Candle Company recently recalled more than 700,000 loose votive candles due to a high burning flame that poses a fire and burn hazard. Similarly, Toys R Us recently recalled about 7,400 remote-controlled helicopters because of the risk of the battery overheating and posing a fire and burn hazard.

The recall affects approximately 6,500 units in the United States and 900 in Canada, according to the CPSC. The double rotor helicopters came with a rechargeable battery that can overheat when it’s packed inside the helicopter, posing a burn and fire hazard to the consumer and the helicopter’s surroundings. According to Toys R Us, the company has received approximately 11 reports about the battery overheating, but it has not received any reports of any injuries from the flaw.

The toy helicopters, which are named the “Fast Lane FA-005 Radio Control 3-Channel Helicopter with Gyro Stabilizer and Charger,” are blue and white with a “Fast Lane” logo located on the top of the helicopter. The helicopters are about 9-inches tall, and came with a remote control unit, a charger for the battery and a case. Model number 5F5F2F5 is located on the front of the product’s package and on the bottom of the helicopter.

The helicopters were sold from fall 2012 through January 2013 in Toys R Us stores and online at www.toysrus.com for about $100. The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the helicopter and take it to the nearest Toys R Us store for a full refund or store credit, the Wall Street Journal reports in an article.
