More than 400,000 Baby Einstein Activity Jumpers Recalled Due to Impact Hazard

A product with an impact injury hazard in the home can put both the consumer and the consumer’s guests at risk. Last month, a few household items, mainly lighting products, were recalled due to impact hazards. Bel Air Lighting issued a recall of approximately 20,500 chandeliers last month because of the risk of the chandelier falling, and possibly injuring anyone standing underneath it. This month, the children’s product manufacturer Kids II is recalling approximately 400,000 units of its Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumpers in the United States and about 8,500 units in Canada due to a toy on the product that can pose an impact hazard.

The CPSC states in its news release that Kids II has received approximately 100 reports of incidents including 61 injuries from the jumpers. According to Kids II, the injuries from the jumpers include “bruises, lacerations to the face, a 7-month-old boy who sustained a lineal skull fracture and a chipped tooth to an adult.” The injuries were caused by a toy in the shape of a sun that can rebound with force.

The blue and white jumpers are stationary and have an assortment of colorful toys surrounding the frame of the jumper. The potentially hazardous sun toy, which is attached to the side of the seat frame, is yellow with either three or five colorful rings. A tag located on the underside of the seat has the model number 90564.

The jumpers were sold for approximately $90 at Target, Toys ‘R Us, Amazon.com and other retailers from May 2010 through May 2013. Kids II states that any units manufactured after November 2011 or currently in stock at select retailers are not affected by the recall. Consumers are instructed to immediately stop using the product and contact the company for a replacement toy.

Kids II can be contacted at 877-325-7056 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. Information about the recall can be found at the bottom of the company’s website, www.kidsii.com, by clicking on a link labeled “Recall.”
