In many countries around the world slamming the car door is a sign of disrespect to the owner of the vehicle. This is not necessarily the case in the United States, but some Nissan owners may want to rethink their approach as the automaker announced the recall of over 54,000 cars because the side airbags can allegedly go off when the door is slammed shut. Nissan told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that defective side impact sensors can lead to the inadvertent deployment of the side airbags, which may cause injury if the door is slammed when entering certain 2012 Nissan Versa automobiles.
