Chrysler Group notified owners of 2007 Dodge Nitro vehicles of this recall on February 02, 2007. The recall began on February 19, 2007. More than 50,000 units were affected by this recall.
It was determined that on certain vehicles, the antilock brake system “ABS” control module software might cause the rear brakes to lock up during certain braking conditions. If not repaired it could result in loss of control and could cause a crash without warning. Dealers were required to reprogram the “ABS” electronic control unit.
The vehicles were manufactured between September and December of 2006, and Chrysler began notifying owners of the recall in February 2007.
