Disney Recalls Nightlights & Magic Wands

One month after recalling thousands of Mickey & Minnie Mouse toddler hoodies, two more products with Disney’s iconic characters have been recalled. In early February, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts US, Inc. announced the recall of approximately 3,000 Mickey Mouse nightlights after one reportedly caused an electrical fire. A week later Feld Entertainment Inc., the producer of Disney’s live shows, announced a recall of more than 30,000 Mickey & Minnie Mouse toy wands because “the top component can detach,” exposing an eight-inch rod of metal. Both products were imported from China, as were the infant hoodies that could allegedly become a choking hazard.

The defective “Happy Holidays! Mickey Mouse” nightlights contain a glitter filled liquid that can allegedly leak onto an electrical outlet and cause a fire.  The nightlights were sold from July 2016 to November 2016 exclusively at Walt Disney World in Florida, Disneyland in California, on the Shop Disney Parks App, and online at DisneyStore.com. The nightlights, depicting Mickey Mouse in a Santa hat, were sold for $14.95. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has released a statement promising consumers a $25 refund for the inconvenience. The theme park operator told authorities that they learned of two incidents, one leading to an electrical fire, but no injuries were reported.

Disney Recall Reaches 8 States

The potentially dangerous toy wands were available for purchase at “Disney on Ice” and “Disney Live” shows from October 2016 to November 2016. Feld Entertainment identified more than 30 shows in eight states where the wands were sold: Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, & West Virginia. The $22 light spinning wands are 18 inches tall and each has the lot number printed on the bottom. So far two lots with potential defects have been identified (Lot 954544 & Lot 954603). Feld Entertainment has not reported any related injuries at the time of the recall, but with 30,000 out in the market, parents should be checking their children’s Disney wands as soon as possible.

Owners of a recalled Walt Disney Park and Resort’s nightlight or a Feld Entertainment’s toy wand are being told to stop using the product immediately and contact the corresponding company for refund instructions.
