Polaris Industries Recalls Popular Recreational VehicleOver Possible Throttle Defect

After recalling 82 snowmobiles last month due to the possibility of a shock posing a hazard to operators, Polaris Industries of Medina, Minnesota has voluntarily agreed to recall another product.  In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the company is recalling approximately 327 of its Ranger recreational off-highway vehicles due to loss of control and a crash hazard.

Although no accidents or injuries have been reported, the recreational vehicle’s throttle can fail to operate properly, which can cause the vehicle’s rider to lose control, posing a crash hazard.  The recalled product was sold at Polaris dealers nationwide from July 2012 through September 2012 for about $8,300 and was manufactured in the United States and Mexico.

Consumers who own a 2013 Polaris Ranger 400 recreational off-highway vehicle with model number R13RH45AG may be affected by this recall.  Vehicles with VIN numbers between 4XARH45A3D4726305 and 4XARH45A7DE68444 could have a defective throttle, although not all VIN numbers in this range are included in the recall.

The company’s name is stamped on the front of the vehicle above the grill, and a “400 HO” decal is located on the right and left side of the hood.  “Ranger 4×4” is also printed on the side of the rear bed box of the green and gray vehicles.

Polaris is contacting its customers directly, but consumers can check the model number, which is printed in the owner’s manual, to see if their vehicle is recalled.  A complete list of recalled VIN numbers can be found on the company’s website.  The CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Polaris Ranger vehicles until the owners can check to see if their vehicle has a malfunctioning throttle. Consumers who have a recalled product can contact the company to schedule a free repair.
