Disney Recalls 15,000 Minnie & Mickey Mouse Infant Hoodies

Potentially dangerous sweatshirts made for infants, sold exclusively by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, have been recalled by U.S. authorities over concerns that “the snaps on the hoodies can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.” The 15,000 sweatshirts, with a three-snap closure, were manufactured in China, imported by Disney Destinations LLC, and then sold at Walt Disney Parks in Florida and California from April 2016 to October 2016. The $29.95 sweatshirts, which were also available on the Shop Disney Parks app, have not been linked to any accidents or injuries at the time of this recall.

The cotton and polyester sweatshirts depict the body of Minnie or Mickey Mouse up to the neck with ears sewn onto the hoods, but poor manufacturing has turned the cute theme park souvenir into a potential deathtrap. “Disney Parks” is printed on the inside of the sweatshirts along the neck and were sold in four different sizes; 6M, 12M, 18M & 24M. In addition, the recalled hoodies have identification date codes on an inside label of the Minnie Mouse sweatshirts (FAC-010635-16194, FAC-010635-16015) and Mickey Mouse versions (FAC-010635-16220, FAC-010635-16015 & FAC-010635-16280).

2015 Disney Recall

One year ago a similar recall was announced over 10,000 “Darth Vader” and “Disneyland 60th” infant bodysuits sold by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts for around $20 each. Those onesies also included snaps that could detach and cause “a small part choking hazard.” The recalled bodysuits were sold from February 2015 to November 2015 at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California, as well as the Disney Magic, Disney Dream, & Disney Fantasy cruise ships. The entertainment and amusement park company is offering a $30 refund for the Darth Vader bodysuit with text that reads, “If you only knew the power of THE DARK SIDE,” and the Disneyland 60th bodysuit that states, “60th Disneyland Resort, Diamond Celebration.”

Consumers who purchased a recalled infant sweatshirt or bodysuit are being told by authorities to keep the clothing away from infants and contact Walt Disney Parks and Resorts immediately. In a statement the company said that they will provide each owner a $40 refund for the recently recalled hoodies, which is $10 more than what they paid.
